O impacto das Ășlceras orais recorrentes na qualidade de vida

Abstract(s)
As Ășlceras orais recorrentes (UOR) sĂŁo uma doença benigna da cavidade oral que afeta uma parte significativa da população humana. Clinicamente, esta doença apresenta trĂȘs formas: Ășlceras orais recorrentes minor, Ășlceras orais recorrentes major e Ășlceras orais recorrentes herpetiformes.
Apesar dos inĂșmeros estudos realizados sobre esta doença, a sua etiologia permanece desconhecida e, ainda, nĂŁo se descobriu uma terapĂȘutica curativa eficaz.
MĂșltiplos fatores poderĂŁo estar na sua origem, mas ainda nĂŁo Ă© possĂvel afirmar com exatidĂŁo as causas que as desencadeiam. Se as causas fossem conhecidas seria possĂvel indicar os cuidados a ter ou as açÔes preventivas de modo a evitĂĄ-las. Se assim fosse, seria possĂvel diminuir o impacto negativo na qualidade de vida de quem sofre desta doença.
Entretanto, indicar-se-ĂŁo alguns tratamentos e cuidados que poderĂŁo ajudar a controlar os sintomas das Ășlceras orais recorrentes e ajudar, ainda, a diminuir a frequĂȘncia das recorrĂȘncias de modo a permitir que todos aqueles que sofrem desta patologia possam ter uma melhor qualidade de vida.
Como jĂĄ foi referido, sem terapĂȘutica de cura objetiva, estes recursos sĂŁo apenas paliativos e visam aliviar o mal-estar e a dor, encurtar o tempo de cicatrização e aumentar intervalos entre episĂłdios, facultando uma melhor qualidade de vida aos pacientes. Recurrent aphthous oral ulcers are a benign condition and one of the most common oral lesions amongst the general population. Clinically, the three main types are as follows: Minor recurrent aphthous ulcers, Major recurrent aphthous ulcers and Herpetiform recurrent aphthous ulcers.
Despite the numerous studies carried out over the years, its etiology remains unknown and an effective curative treatment has yet to be developed.
These manifestations are multifatorial in its origins, though it is not yet possible to accurately point out its triggers. Would the causes be known, preventive measures could be taken in order to avoid these manifestations and it would be possible to reduce the negative impact on the quality of life of those suffering from this condition.
There are, nonetheless, some preventive measures and treatments which may help control the symptomatology of recurrent aphthous oral ulcers and also decrease the recurrences in order to provide a better quality of life to all those who suffer from this pathology.
As previously stated, without an effective curative therapy, these treatments are only palliative and aim to relieve the discomfort and pain, shorten the healing time and reduce the frequency of episodes of ulceration.
