Abstract(s)
Introduction: eccentric exercise is not consensual although its efficacy has been proved in other tendons, like patellar and achilles. It seems to be important to notice that, subacromial impingement syndrome (SIS) has high impact in population, so the best treatment strategy should be achieved to prevent this impact. Purpose: evaluate the effectiveness of eccentric exercise in patients with subacromial impingement syndrome. Methods: research developed in EBSCOhost, Pubmed, PEDro and other sources, with the following key-words Eccentric Exercise, Eccentric Loading, Eccentric Training, Subacromial impingement, physiotherapy, physical therapy and with the logic operator AND and OR. Results: 7 articles were found including several parameters, like pain, strength, function and range of motion. In 5 of them the aim was to understand if eccentric exercise was effective for SIS treatment, 1 of them intended to compare eccentric and concentric exercise and the last one, to understand if the eccentric exercise had to be painful. Conclusion: we could conclude that eccentric exercise should be taken as another tool for the treatment of subacromial impingement syndrome.
