This study looks at the digital communication of the Instituto Português de Oncologia do Porto (IPO-Porto) from a simple idea: the way an institution communicates also reflects the way it cares. The research starts from the question of how hospital digital communication, when guided by empathy and humanization, can contribute to the building of trust. The focus is on IPO-Porto, an institution where vulnerability is part of both its working context and its relationship with its audiences. The study follows a qualitative approach and uses a case study strategy. It analyses 20 social media posts, institutional website content, and user comments. The data was examined through content analysis, aiming to identify patterns in language, recurring themes, and ways of relating to the public. What emerges is a consistent form of communication across platforms, mainly focused on informative and institutional content, but also including initiatives linked to humanization and a more human side of the institution. The language shifts between more technical moments and others that feel closer and more personal. At the same time, it is noticeable that despite the strong presence of user comments, often positive and emotional, there is no institutional response, which is also part of the interpretation of the case. Overall, this work shows that digital communication in a healthcare context is not only about providing information. Even when that is not its explicit purpose, it shapes how the institution is perceived, experienced, and to some extent, trusted.
