| dc.description.abstract | Muitos indivíduos que se acham apenas "gordinhos", sofrem de Obesidade e o seu número tem aumentado assustadoramente nos últimos anos, ao ponto desta doença se ter tornado a nova pandemia do século XXI. Sumário Para que os enfermeiros respondam com competência e sejam uma mais valia no contexto da equipe multidisciplinar, quer a nível da promoção da saúde, quer na prevenção da doença, é de extrema importância, dar desde cedo atenção à formação holística dos alunos de enfermagem. Como tal pareceu-nos pertinente desenvolver um estudo com a finalidade de analisar os conhecimentos dos alunos do 4º ano da licenciatura em Enfermagem da Universidade Fernando Pessoa (UFP) do Porto sobre a Obesidade. Para a concretização e realização deste estudo foi feita uma pesquisa bibliográfica em Português, Inglês e Espanhol, relacionada com a problemática - Obesidade. Pretendeu-se realizar um estudo do tipo descritivo, baseado numa abordagem quantitativa e transversal sobre o tema: “Obesidade: Conhecimentos dos alunos do 4º ano da Licenciatura em Enfermagem da Universidade Fernando Pessoa do Porto”. A população alvo foram os alunos do 4º ano da Licenciatura em Enfermagem da Universidade Fernando Pessoa do Porto, a frequentar o ano 2009/2010, tendo sido seleccionada uma amostra de 45 alunos pelo método de amostragem não aleatória acidental. Como método de colheita de dados foi utilizado o questionário. Sucintamente, relativamente aos dados obtidos, podemos dizer que 62% apresenta valores de Índice de Massa Corporal (IMC) relativos a Peso Normal, ainda o mesmo número de alunos apresenta Conhecimentos Bons sobre a Obesidade e para 71% dos alunos a UFP não fomenta o exercício físico e o mesmo se passa para a alimentação saudável (69%). Many individuals who consider themselves only chubby, suffer from obesity and their number has increased alarmingly in the recent years to the extent that the disease has become a new pandemic of the 21st century. Abstract For nurses to respond with competence and to be an asset in the context of the multidisciplinary team, both in health promotion or in disease prevention, it is of paramount importance, to give early attention to the holistic education of nursing students. As such we felt it is pertinent to develop a study aimed at assessing the knowledge of Obesity of the 4th year students' of the Nursing degree at the University Fernando Pessoa. To accomplish of this study a review of the literature, in Portuguese, Spanish and English, related with obesity was performed. It was intended to conduct a descriptive study, based on a quantitative and transversal approach of the topic: "Obesity: Knowledge of this issue by the 4th year students of the Nursing Degree at the University Fernando Pessoa." The target population is the students who attended the 4th year of the Nursing Degree during 2009/2010 at the University Fernando Pessoa in Porto. A sample of 45 students was selected by random non accidental sampling method. For the data collection the questionnaire method was used. In a few words, 62,2% of the students have BMI values related to normal weight, the same number have Good Knowledge about Obesity and to 71% of students say that UFP doesn´t encourage physical activity and the same goes for the healthy eating (69%).Many individuals who consider themselves only chubby, suffer from obesity and their number has increased alarmingly in the recent years to the extent that the disease has become a new pandemic of the 21st century.
