Introdução: A estética do sorriso é uma preocupação mundial de acordo com critérios específicos para determinadas culturas. No mundo ocidental, alguns critérios estéticos foram apresentados numa tentativa de definir um ideal de beleza. Desta forma, existem diferentes métodos disponíveis para os profissionais e os pacientes atingirem o resultado desejado.
Objectivos: Neste trabalho, vamos tentar definir o sorriso ideal, recorrendo às opiniões de diferentes grupos de pessoas (população em geral e profissionais de saúde da área da medicina dentária) e expor ambas as técnicas ortodônticas.
Materiais e Métodos: a revisão Bibliográfica tem por base as palavras-chaves “estética do sorriso”, com o objectivo de angariar e debater o máximo de informação sobre este tema.
Resultados e Conclusões: Não há nenhum sorriso universal ideal, mas um sorriso adaptado para cada paciente. Vários métodos ortodônticos estão disponíveis e em constante mudança. O especialista deve, contudo, ser cuidadoso para não sobre-corrigir um sorriso, deve tentar ir de encontro as espectativas e desejos dos pacientes, mas trabalhando sempre tendo em conta a harmonia da face e não um conceito subjetivo de beleza.
Introduction: The aesthetics of the smile is a global concern, according to specific criteria to crops. In the Western world, certain aesthetic determinants have been put forward in order to try to define an ideal of beauty. Thus, different methods are available to practitioners and patients to achieve the desired result. Aim: In this work, we will try to define the ideal smile, through the opinion of different population groups (patients and professionals) and to expose two orthodontic techniques. Material and Methods: The Bibliographic review is based on the keywords "aesthetic of the smile", with the aim of gathering and discussing the maximum information on this topic. Results and conclusions: There is no universal ideal smile, but a smile adapted to the faces of the patients. Several orthodontic methods are available and involves in efficiency. The patrician must, however, be careful not to over-correct a smile but should try to meet the expectations and desires of the patients, and always working with the harmony of the face and not a subjective concept of beauty.
