Abstract(s)
Introdução: A saúde oral dos pacientes dependentes nas atividades de vida diária é uma tarefa trabalhosa. Os enfermeiros deparam-se com dificuldades materiais juntamente com uma formação precária em cuidados orais.
Objetivo: Caracterizar os cuidados de saúde oral praticados pelas equipas de enfermagem em pacientes numa faixa etária superior a 60 anos, totalmente ou parcialmente, dependentes, em enfermarias médicas e cirúrgicas.
Materiais e métodos: Foi realizado um estudo transversal, através de um questionário com 24 questões sobre os cuidados de saúde oral prestados pelas equipas de enfermagem. A amostra foi de 46 enfermeiros do Centro Hospitalar do Algarve, da Enfermaria de Neurocirurgia e Medicina Interna I, da Unidade de Faro e, Enfermarias de Medicina Interna A e B, da Unidade de Portimão. Os participantes entraram voluntariamente no estudo, tendo sido facultada uma explicação por escrito (Anexo 3) e, assinado um consentimento informado (Anexo 2), aprovados pela Comissão de Ética do Centro Hospitalar do Algarve.
Resultados: Dos participantes, 32,6% recebeu formação específica em cuidados orais, 89,1% considera-os como prioridade elevada e 21,7% considera os protocolos de cuidados de saúde oral insuficientes. As práticas incluíram: higienização oral uma vez por turno (43,5%), hidratação com água (89,6%) e inspeção da cavidade oral a cada 8 horas (41,3%).
Discussão e conclusão: É necessária a formação em cuidados de saúde orais e estudos científicos direcionados, para a implementação de protocolos padronizados e uniformização dos cuidados prestados nas enfermarias.
Introduction: Oral health of dependent patients is a hard job. Nursing teams come across material difficulties together with a precarious teaching in oral health. Goal: Characterization of the oral care practiced by the nursing teams in partially or totally dependent patients that are hospitalized at medical and surgical wards, with an age range over 60 years old. Materials and Methods: A transversal study was conducted, by a questionnaire with 24 questions about the oral care given by the nursing teams. The sample was composed by 46 nurses from Centro Hospitalar do Algarve, Neurosurgical and Internal Medicine I wards in Faro and, Internal Medicine A and B wards in Portimão. All the participants accepted to carry the study voluntarily, and a written explanation of it was given, together with an informed consent that had been signed by all of the participants. These documents were approved by the Etic Committee of Centro Hospitalar do Algarve. Results: Of participants, 32,6% received specific education in oral care, 89,1% consider it as high priority and 21,7% consider the oral care protocols insufficient. The procedures most used included: oral hygiene once per shift (43,5%), oral cavity hydration with water (89,6%) and oral cavity inspection every 8 hours (41,3%).
