Este trabalho propõe esclarecer alguns aspetos sobre os protetores bucais e a sua utilização
como equipamento indispensável para a prática desportiva. Tendo em conta que o número de
praticantes de desportos de contacto aumentou, bem como o risco de traumatismos dento-alveolares,
articulares e faciais.
O objetivo principal deste trabalho é destacar as diferentes vantagens dos protetores bucais
individualizados, e a proteção que fornecem às diferentes estruturas orais, assim como no discurso e
respiração, tendo em consideração a técnica de confeção deste tipo de aparelho no consultório
médico-dentário.
Podemos constatar que o uso dos protetores bucais individualizados são os mais aconselhados
na prevenção de traumatismos dentários e extremamente importante em atletas que participam em
desportos de contacto.
This paper proposes to clarify some aspects about mouth guards and their use as specific equipment for sports practice. In recent years, the number of contact sportspeople has increased, as well as the risk of dental, joint and facial injuries. The main objective of the study was to clarify the different advantages of individualized mouth guards and the protection provided by different oral structures, as well as speech and breathing. Considering the technique of making this type of appliance in the doctor-dental office. Use of individualized mouth guards are the most advised in the prevention of dental injuries is extremely important in athletes who participate in contact sports.
