Abstract(s)
In Dental Medicine we have several disciplines and branches: one of these is periodontology, which deals with the prevention and treatment of all tissues around the tooth. When these tissues suffer inflammation, this condition is defined as periodontitis, which leads to the need to treat it with various techniques and approaches, whether surgical (TPC) or non-surgical (NCP). The NCPT represents, nowadays, the first line of choice for the success of the treatment of chronic periodontitis and its main objective is to reduce inflammation promoting the patient's oral health, through the reduction of bacterial plaque, removal of upper and sub tartar. (calculus) and motivating the patient's personal oral hygiene at home. This approach can comprise two main techniques: full mouth disinfection technique and mechanical root planing divided by quadrants/sextants. These types of techniques are heavily dependent on the patient's compliance, their periodontal status but also on the operator's dexterity for long-term success. This narrative review of the existing literature on this topic intends to understand the two treatment approaches, evaluating them over time by comparing the clinical parameters obtained after their execution.
