Abstract(s)
Autism Spectrum Disorder was described in 1943 by Leo Kanner, and nowadays, through the DSM V, it is characterized by a neurodevelopmental disorder, characterized by impaired social interaction, verbal and non-verbal communication and restricted and repetitive behavior. It is through communication and language that we can demonstrate experiences and knowledge. In Speech Therapy, we can determine the communicative profile, characterized by conversational characteristics and skills, taking into account your ability to initiate a conversation or ability to respond to another interlocutor. In the field of Occupational Therapy, it is possible to identify the sensory profile, determined by individual characteristics related to the way each person processes and responds to sensory stimuli from the environment around them. Taking into account that the Communicative Profile and the Sensory Profile are two of the fundamental characteristics that determine the functionality and participation in natural contexts by the Person with ASD, our study aims to study the relationship between the communicative profiles and the sensorial profiles in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Children with ASD, between 18 months and 12 years of age, were evaluated using parental reporting instruments, namely, LUI- Language Use Inventory (from 18M to 47M), CCC- Checklist for Children's Communication (from 48M to 12 A), and the Sensory Profile. 29 children from the northern region of Portugal were evaluated. From the results found and in the area of speech therapy, it was possible to find a greater prevalence of difficulties with intelligibility and speech fluency, coherence and personal relationships. From the sensorial point of view, the profile of sensorial demand and poor registration, corresponded to a higher incidence among the studied population. The study objectives were not fully achieved due to lack of time to complete an inferential analysis with consequences in terms of results, discussion and conclusion.
