Abstract(s)
The gingival smile can be an overcomable obstacle for those patients, who idealize a certain beauty standard. In some patients, excessive gingival exposure, in addition to being able to interfere with their self-esteem, sometimes coexists with Stomatognathic System (SE) dysfunctions. The etiology is multifactorial, and there may be an overlap of causal factors such as abnormal dental eruption, hyperactivity of the upper lip elevator muscle or excessive vertical growth of the maxillary bone. Consequently, the choice of appropriate treatment sometimes lies in the combination of therapeutic modalities. The procedures used may be surgical or non- surgical, and the use of botulinum toxin (TB) is considered a non-invasive and safe option and has been successfully used in recent years. This bibliographic review aims to analyze the publications about the use of botulinum toxin in the treatment of gingival smile.
