Abstract(s)
The existence of complications in tooth supported indirect restorations constitutes a daily challenge for dentists. The success of this type of treatment is related to the technical capacity of the dentist and the laboratory technician, but it is also associated to a series of factors related to the patient and the correct maintenance over the lifetime of this type of prosthesis. One of the most frequent biolo gical complications is the presence of dental caries in the abutment teeth. This factor can lead to the total loss or failure of a treatment, even if the rehabilitation structure remains intact. The aim of this narrative review is to assess the incidence of secondary caries in fixed tooth supported prostheses as well as the factors that may influence this type of biological complication.
