Abstract(s)

The purpose of this study is to present the importance of dental care to the elderly, making professionals aware of the oral conditions of the elderly people and their treatments. This study is relevant for dentists, as it reflects on the behaviors adopted in elderly patients in Portugal. It is a literature review on the issue and shows that specialized dentists can improve the oral health of the elderly people, making them more independent and with better life quality. However, the Portuguese population still has much to go forward to have a greater oral health coverage. Further investments to enhance oral health care for these people are needed.
