Esta dissertação de mestrado em Ciências da Comunicação (ramo de especialização em jornalismo) visa a compreensão de vários conceitos em torno daquela que é a figura do provedor do leitor, conceitos esses como por exemplo entender a importância da figura do provedor do leitor para o jornalismo de referência em Portugal; expressar de uma forma rigorosa e clara as funções que desempenha esta figura jornalística. Estes conceitos irão ser expostos paralelamente com uma contextualização histórica.
O provedor do leitor ocupa um cargo de autorregulação entre os leitores e determinado órgão de comunicação social, contudo, hoje esta figura é cada vez mais escassa mundialmente. Desta forma, foi escolhido para objeto de estudo o jornal Público, jornal esse que vem a manter a figura do provedor do leitor desde 1997.
Numa era em que a digitalização provocou uma crise no jornalismo, consideramos que faz parte do interesse dos jornais de referência ouvirem ou neste caso lerem as preocupações dos seus leitores. Sendo que o jornal Público vem a manter a figura do provedor do leitor desde 1997, o nosso objetivo com esta dissertação passará por perceber se ao longo dos anos as preocupações dos leitores se têm modificado e por que razões.
This masters dissertation in communication science (specializing In journalism) aims to comprehend the many concepts surrounding the figure known as the ombudsman. Such concepts include: understanding the importance of that person on the reference journalism in Portugal; Express in a rigorous and clear way the function of an ombudsman. Both of these concepts will be presented alongside historical context. The ombudsman is tasked with being a moderator between the readers and any designated social media organ. However, such a person is almost non-existent in our country nowadays. Due to that, the newspaper Público has been chosen as the main point of study since it's been maintaining the figure of the ombudsman alive since 1997. In an age where digitization has taken a toll on journalism, it's in the reference newspapers best Interests to take into account their readers worries. As I've said prior, the newspaper Público has been keeping the figure of the ombudsman alive since 1997 and due to that, this dissertation's objective is to understand if through the years, the readers' worries have been changed and the possible causes for that.
