As resinas compostas são imensamente utilizadas pelos médicos dentistas nas restaurações estéticas, tornando-se bastante famosas. Anteriormente, as modificações estavam centralizadas em reduzir o tamanho das partículas, produzindo materiais mais fáceis e eficazes no polimento e acabamento. Porém, na actualidade o foco reside no desenvolvimento de materiais com reduzida contracção e tensão de polimerização. Um dos avanços tecnológicos com destaque no mercado é a aplicação da nanotecnologia em materiais dentários em restaurações directas.
Objectivo: Apresentar as propriedades das resinas compostas, demonstrando o real estado da arte, e quais são as perspectivas para este material.
Métodos: Pesquisa bibliográfica manual e via online, através do motor de busca “Google”, assim como das bases de dados primárias “Medline/Pubmed”, “ScienceDirect, “Scielo” e “B-On”.
Conclusões: Todavia, apesar da diversidade de materiais, a procura da excelência de um material ideal é incessante.
