Domestic violence is a phenomenon that has had great visibility at a scientific and social level, being an increasingly recurring theme in our daily lives. This type of violence covers behaviors used by one of the parties, namely the control exercised over the other person. This psychosocial phenomenon covers every social classes, genders and cultures (Caridade, 2011). In this way, this Graduation Project emerges as a research proposal, based on the desire to understand the aggressor's motivations to commit this crime, the way victims react to these behaviors, as well as the responses of support institutions. The present work is divided into two parts, the first part referring to the theoretical framework, and the second part referring to a study based on data from cases of victims of domestic violence from the Red Cross of Matosinhos, in order to understand the percentage of victims who return to the relationship, those who really manage to rebuild their lives, those who are sent to shelters and, finally, those who go to the institution solely as a way of venting, but refuse to leave the aggressor One of the reasons why I chose the Red Cross of Matosinhos to carry out this study was the fact that it is one of the few institutions that focuses solely on supporting victims of domestic violence, and has closely followed this entire process.
