Santos, Paula Mota; Alzetta, RobertoThis paper discuss issues related to the use of film in social science research. A documentary made within TRESEGY, a three year EU-funded research project, is the basis of this paper. TRESEGY focused on the experiences of inclusion and exclusion in the public sphere among second generation migrated European teenagers. The final documentary was made by two film crews from two different universities that divided among themselves nine European cities where filming took place. Issues of the negotiation of meaning involved in the different stages of film-making, between a) the researchers consortium and the filmmakers b) the youths filmed and the filmmakers/researchers from each terrain are discussed.
