- Influence of prosthetic emergence profile on peri- implantitis: a systematic reviewPublication . Tavares, Vitória Martins; Castro, FilipeBackground: Peri-implant soft and hard tissues are key for the long-term success of single implant-supported restorations. The emergence profile, as the interface between the peri-implant area and the exterior, must be well understood, as it may be directly linked to the health of these tissues and consequently to treatment success. Objective: This systematic review aimed to investigate the influence of the emergence profile on peri-implant tissue health.< Materials and methods: This review was registered in PROSPERO (registration number: CRD42024578791) and conducted according to PRISMA guidelines. The search was performed in four databases: PubMed, ScienceDirect, Cochrane Library and B-on, using the key words: abutment, single dental implant, abutment design, peri-implantitis. A total of 829 records were identified. After duplicate removal and application of inclusion and exclusion criteria, 10 articles were selected and subjected to risk of bias assessment using the Rob 2.0 tool by Cochrane. Results: Ten articles were included, categorized as low risk or with some concerns. Conclusion: This review explores how prosthetic emergence profiles impact peri-implant health, emphasizing the role of material, connection type, and design. Zirconia abutments and conical connections appear to enhance oral health and aesthetics, highlighting the need for individualized approaches.
