Santos, Laila Cristina Marques dos; Oliveira, Filipa Pinto dePalliative care is understood as those treatments aiming to improve the quality of life for patients, as well as for their families, tackling the problems associated with life-threatening diseases by preventing, reducing or relieving the suffering, through early diagnosis of pain and the physical, psychological, social and spiritual issues that such diseases can cause. A multi-professional approach is instrumental and the role of the dentist is to act on the orofacial pain relief, prevention and treatment of opportunistic infections, control of oral bleeding, readaptation and repair of oral protheses, prevention and alleviation of radiotherapy and chemotherapy effects, control of the salivary changes, among others. This narrative review aims to address the importance of palliative dental care in terminally ill patients. The conclusion is that this subject has not been discussed enough, translating to what clinic reality is at the moment.
