Abstract(s)
A agenesia dentária, ou hipodontia, é uma anomalia dentária caraterizada pela ausência de uma ou mais peças dentárias. Esta pode ter diversas causas e ocorre predominantemente na dentição permanente. O diagnóstico da agenesia dentária é efetuado por exame clínico e radiológico, enquanto a terapêutica deve ser adaptada a cada paciente.
Com o presente trabalho procura-se esclarecer o conceito de agenesia dentária enquanto patologia e etiologia, na sua vertente sindrómica e não-sindrómica. Mais ainda, na vertente não-sindrómica, procura-se conhecer e avaliar os genes envolvidos.
De forma a cumprir os objetivos propostos foi efetuada uma pesquisa bibliográfica em bases de dados digitais, como PubMed, Scielo e Google Académico, utilizando as palavras-chave: Tooth Agenesis, Genetics, Hypodontia, Non-syndromic e Dental Anomalies.
Através da pesquisa concluiu-se que a etiologia da agenesia dentária ainda não se encontra devidamente esclarecida, mas considera-se que existem na sua génese fatores evolutivos e hereditários. A vertente não-sindrómica encontra-se associada a mutações nos genes MSX1 e PAX9, envolvidos na agenesia dentária dos terceiros molares e segundos pré-molares, respetivamente.
Tooth agenesis, or hypodontia, is a dental anomaly characterized by the absence of one or more dental pieces. It can have several causes and occurs predominantly in the permanent dentition. The diagnosis is performed by clinical and radiological examination, while the therapy must be adapted to each patient. The aim of the study is to clarify the concept of dental agenesis as a pathology and aetiology, in its syndromic and non-syndromic aspects. Moreover, in the non-syndromic types, the aim is to know and evaluate the involved genes. In order to fulfil the proposed goals, a bibliographic search was done in digital databases, such as PubMed, Scielo and Google Scholar, using the keywords: Tooth Agenesis, Genetics, Hypodontia, Non-syndromic and Dental Anomalies. Through the research it was concluded that the aetiology of dental agenesis is not yet adequately clarified, but it is considered the involvement of evolutionary and hereditary factors in its genesis. The non-syndromic aspect is associated with mutations in the MSX1 and PAX9 genes, involved in dental agenesis of the third-molar and second premolar, respectively.
