Abstract(s)
The objectives of this study are to evaluate the occurrence of contamination of the guttapercha cones from stored boxes, already used in clinical practice and to determine whether the use of chemical agents for the disinfection of cones was effective. A research was carried out following the PRISMA methodology in the databases Pubmed, Google Scholar, Scopus, B-on and Science-Direct, which after a critical and careful analysis was reduced to 8 articles. The scientific quality of each article included in this review was evaluated before its inclusion through a scientific evaluation grid of articles. It was found that the clinical use of the boxes is associated with additional contamination of the cones of gutta-percha. Therefore, a prior protocol of disinfection of the cones is essential to maintain the aseptic chain and thus ensure the success of endodontic treatment.
