Abstract(s)
Em 1994 encerra na Bacia Carbonífera do Douro a última
exploração de combustível nacional, ficando em suspenso
a evolução da paisagem outrora determinada pela transformação
do carvão em energia, desde as estruturas de
apoio social na proximidade dos pontos de extração até
aos sistemas (infra)estruturais da, e na, cidade do Porto.
Face à capacidade de representação dos valores que estabelecem
vínculos entre o presente e o passado sobre a
qual deverá incidir a condição patrimonial, abordamos esta
paisagem tecnológica e de grande pendor identitário como
uma unidade operativa, potenciadora de uma requalificação
integrada e dotada de significado. O Sistema Carbonífero do
Douro constitui-se como importante eixo de aproximação
a um enquadramento prospetivo do bem patrimonial, tendo
como desígnio potenciar um ordenamento subjacente à
valorização paisagística e um estímulo à sua vivência enquanto
referencial identitário, cujo propósito não poderá
alienar-se do desenho arquitetónico.
In 1994, the last Portuguese fuel exploitation, in the Douro Coalfield, was closed. It marks the suspension of this landscape evolution process, formerly determined by the transformation of coal into energy. This territorial transformation takes place from the social support structures, close to the extraction points, up to the (infra)structural systems of, and in, Oporto. The heritage status should rely on its capacity to represent values that establish links between the present and the past. Under this assumption this technological landscape is approached as an operative unit, in order to promote an integrated and meaningful requalification. The Carboniferous System of Douro sets itself as an important axis in approaching heritage property from a prospective framework. The goal would be to move closer to a territorial planning that lies beneath landscape enhancement and enables it to function as an identity referential, whose purpose cannot be separated from the architectural design.
