Abstract(s)
Objectives: Carry out a systematic narrative review of the current scientific literature on incidental findings on panoramic radiographs, aiming to comprehensively synthesize and analyze the identified incidental findings, discuss the clinical importance of these findings and the challenges in their identification and interpretation. Methods: Search in electronic databases PubMed and ScienceDirect, using relevant keywords. 569 works from the last 5 years in English and Portuguese and after four stages of inclusion and exclusion 20 publications were analyzed. Results: The main alterations accidentally identified in panoramic radiographs, local or systemic consequences and the clinical relevance of these findings for the dentist are exposed. Conclusions: Throughout this article it is clear that panoramic radiography exposes several incidental findings due to its wide image and that the dentist able to identify these can help to diagnose and prevent situations capable of generating extensive morbidities.
