A esterilização é considerada uma etapa fundamental para a reutilização dos instrumentos endodôntico, embora seja possível realizar com diferentes técnicas, pode alterar a estrutura das limas, alterando as suas características.
O objetivo desta revisão narrativa foi avaliar como a esterilização pode provocar alterações nos instrumentos endodônticos, em relação à resistência à fadiga cíclica, à torção, à microestrutura e microdureza. No entanto a analise da literatura não é consensual, pois os estudos revistos não apresentam protocolos semelhantes, o que dificulta a comparação de resultados e conclusões, existindo estudos contraditórios.
Assim sendo, são necessários mais estudos para determinar uma efetiva correlação entre a esterilização e o efeito que pode ter o calor o os agentes químicos sobre a resistência à fadiga cíclica, à microestrutura e microdureza dos instrumentos.

The objective of this narrative review was to evaluate how sterilization can cause changes in endodontic instruments, in relation to resistance to cyclic fatigue, torsion, microstructure and microhardness. However, the analysis of the literature is not consensual, since the reviewed studies do not present similar protocols, which makes it difficult to compare results and conclusions, with the existence of contradictory studies. Therefore, further studies are needed to determine an effective correlation between sterilization and the effect that heat and chemical agents can have on resistance to cyclic fatigue, microstructure and microhardness of instruments.
