La segregación espacial de los inmigrados: cuestiones básicas

Um aspecto dinâmico da vida nas áreas urbanas espanholas hoje é a existência de uma importante população imigrada concentrada em
zonas específicas das cidades. O estudo da segregação residencial tem sido tema das ciências sociais nos últimos quarenta anos. Formulam-se assim seis questões fundamentais: O que é a segregação? Como se mede? Onde ocorre? Por que razões existe? Que consequências tem? O que se pode fazer para combatê-la? Cada uma destas questões será considerada neste artigo, para o caso espanhol.
A dynamic aspect of the life in the Spanish urban areas today is the existence of an important immigrated population concentrated in specific areas of the cities. The subject of the residential segregation has been
examined by the social sciences in the last forty years. Six fundamental questions can be formulated: what is segregation? How can it be measured? Where does it occur? Why does it exist? What are its consequences? What can be done about it? Each of these questions will be considered in this article, for the Spanish case.
