Os dentes anteriores desempenham um papel importante na estética. O escurecimento dos dentes anteriores pode acarretar consequências psicológicas, causando baixa autoestima. A reabilitação pode ser realizada de diferentes formas, devendo sempre priorizar-se os tratamentos minimamente invasivos.
Pretende-se com este trabalho de revisão narrativa determinar os fatores etiológicos subjacentes à alteração da cor dentária com consequente escurecimento e abordar as diferentes opções reabilitadoras disponíveis. Foi realizada uma pesquisa bibliográfica nas bases de dados PubMed/Medline e Google Scholar.
Concluiu-se que a seleção do tratamento deve ser fundamentada por critérios clínicos. O branqueamento e as facetas diretas têm como vantagem serem tratamentos conservadores, contudo apresentam limitações. As restaurações indiretas, apesar de serem altamente biomiméticas, são menos conservadoras e apresentam custos mais elevados. Estudos futuros devem focar-se sobre as novas resinas que entram no mercado e possuem características promissoras no tratamento clínico-restaurador.

Rehabilitation can be performed in different ways, and minimally invasive treatments should always be prioritized. The purpose of this narrative review is to determine the etiological factors underlying tooth color change with consequent darkening and to address the different rehabilitative options available. A bibliographic search was conducted in PubMed/Medline and Google Scholar databases. It was concluded that treatment selection should be informed by clinical criteria. Whitening and direct veneers have the advantage of being conservative treatments, but they present limitations. Indirect restorations, despite being highly biomimetic, are less conservative and more costly. Future studies should focus on new resins entering the market that have promising characteristics in clinical-restorative treatment.
