Abstract(s)
Estima-se que cerca de 3% da população mundial esteja infectada pelo vírus da hepatite C (VHC). A infecção cronifica-se em até 85% dos indivíduos, com evolução assintomática durante anos ou décadas e apresentação clínica variada.
Uma anamnese bem realizada e a interação do médico dentista com a equipa multiprofissional são indispensáveis para o conhecimento do estado geral de saúde e do dano hepático do paciente, fatores importantes para a elaboração do plano de tratamento.
Este estudo tem como objetivo abordar, através de uma revisão de literatura, o manejo do paciente portador de hepatite C na consulta de medicina dentária.
Conclui-se que o paciente assintomático de hepatite C não apresenta mudanças significativas na farmacocinética e farmacodinâmica de drogas utilizadas no tratamento dentário de rotina; entretanto, devem-se evitar fármacos com grande potencial hepatotóxico. Além de haver alguns riscos como uma hemorragia severa, no caso de cirurgias.

Infection is chronic in up to 85% of the individuals, with asymptomatic evolution during years or decades and varied clinical presentation. A well-documented medical history and the interaction of the dentist with the multiprofessional team are indispensable for the knowledge of the general health and the patient's hepatic damage, important factors for the elaboration of the treatment plan. This study aims to approach from a literature review management in the dental medicine consultation in a patient with hepatitis C. It is concluded that the asymptomatic patient of hepatitis C does not present significant changes in the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of drugs used in routine dental treatment; however, drugs with high hepatotoxic potential should be avoided. Besides there are some risks like a severe hemorrhage, in case of surgeries.
