| dc.description.abstract | A periodontite afeta entre 15 e 20% da população a nível mundial com maior prevalência nas faixas etárias dos 35 aos 44 anos, sendo a maior responsável pela perda de dentes. Esta doença apresenta várias etapas, sendo a gengivite a primeira fase da doença. Se a gengivite for controlada pode ser revertida não avançando para a periodontite. Esta desenvolve-se pela acumulação de bactérias na placa dentária que levam a inflamações responsáveis pela perda dos tecidos que suportam os dentes. Assim, a prevenção e o tratamento devem focar-se no controlo da placa dentária e em terapêuticas que evitem a reincidência da doença. Desta forma, o objetivo deste estudo é a doença periodontal e sua relação com patologias sistémicas como é o caso da diabetes, doenças cardiovasculares, doenças pulmonares/infeções respiratórias e artrite reumatoide. Também será dada enfase à gravidez em situações de partos prematuros. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | Periodontitis affects between 15 and 20% of the world's population, with a higher prevalence in the 35-44 age bracket, being the main cause of teeth loss. This disease has several stages, being gingivitis the first stage of the disease. If gingivitis is properly controlled, it can be reversed and not evolve to periodontitis. This disease develops through the accumulation of numerous bacteria in the dental plaque, that triggers inflammation leading to the loss of the tissues that support the teeth. Thus, prevention and treatment should focus on plaque control and on therapies that prevent recurrence of the disease. Thus, the present study focuses on periodontal disease as well as its relationship with systemic pathologies such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, pulmonary disease/respiratory infections and rheumatoid arthritis. Pregnancy will also be focused in premature delivery situations. | pt_PT |
