Introduction: Emotional intelligence (EI) is the ability to recognise, understand, and manage emotions both personally and professionally. Developing EI enables more effective guidance in the professional setting, fostering more harmonious and resilient therapeutic relationships. Methodology: This scoping review followed the JBI (2020) methodology. The research process adopted predefined criteria, which were adapted according to the database accessed to locate relevant studies. Articles in Portuguese, English, and Spanish, published in the last 10 years, were included. Among the databases consulted were: MEDLINEÂź via EBSCO, CINAHLÂź via EBSCO, and Pubmed. The initial selection of articles was based on titles and abstracts, with those not meeting the inclusion criteria being excluded. Data extraction was performed by a pair of reviewers working independently. Eligible studies for inclusion were those written in Portuguese, English, or Spanish, published in the last 10 years, and the selection process was managed through the Rayyan QCRIÂź platform. Two independent reviewers assessed the relevance of the articles, extracted and condensed relevant information, and created the corresponding PRISMA flowchart. Results: Seven studies were included, demonstrating consistent benefits of EI in the practice of intensive care nurses, specifically in improving emotional management, enhancing team communication, preventing burnout, and enhancing professional performance. Conclusion: This review emphasised that EI is a vital skill for intensive care nurses, enhancing emotional regulation, communication, empathy, and professional effectiveness. The analysed studies highlight EI's role in preventing burnout and improving coping mechanisms. Despite these benefits, gaps remain in the literature, such as a lack of longitudinal research and inconsistency in the tools used.
