Periodontitis is a bacterial infection of the tissues supporting the teeth, designated as periodon tium. This disease leads to progressive destruction of dental support, which may result in the formation of bone defects and later tooth loss. Periodontal treatment can be divided into two groups: non-surgical periodontal treatment and surgical periodontal treatment. Within the pos sibilities of surgical treatment, there is regenerative treatment, which alms at the regeneration of tissue lost by periodontal disease. There are several biomaterials used in regenerative therapy and the choice of material may depend on several factors. This work aims to perform a narrative review on testing the efficacy of proteins derived from the enamel matrix, in periodontal regeneration, through research and studies that compare the behavior and quality of the various biomaterials, and can be combined, or used alone.
