Abstract(s)
The preoperative period entails a set of emotions and feelings that can alter the individual's perception of safety, with the possibility of affecting their well-being. It´s understandable that patients feel vulnerable, since in a hospital environment, they have very close contact with illness and death, as well as pain and the loss of their own autonomy. In the surgical environment, individuals need to trust nurses to ensure their health and safety. In addition, knowledge of traumatizing experiences lived by close family members, or by the individual themselves, fear of anesthetic drugs and the surgical procedure, are other causes that can cause feelings such as fear and anxiety. It is important for nurses to develop strategies to help minimize the impact of anticipation associated with surgery. In this context, the main objective of the present study is to gather and analyze the available evidence to identify nursing interventions in the preoperative period to reduce/control the anxiety of surgical patients. A scoping review was carried out using the National Library of Medicine® (via PubMed®), CINAHL Plus With Full Text® (EBSCOhost) and Web of Science Core Collection® (via Clarive Analytics®) databases. A scoping review was carried out of studies published in the last 5 years in full text with free access and in English, Portuguese and Spanish. A total of 171 articles were found and only 9 were selected for this scoping review.
