| dc.description.abstract | Introduction: Dental hypersensitivity (DH) is an acute and severe pain, which results from dentin exposure to several innocuous stimuli. Objective: The aim of this paper was to perform a literature review describing the mechanism of dental hypersensitivity, its etiology, risk factors, theories, diagnosis and to evaluate the efficacy of low-power laser or photobiomodulation (PBMT) when applied to DH. Methods: A narrative review of the available literature was performed using the Pubmed, Google Scholar, B-on, MEDLINE databases and as keywords dental hypersensitivity AND Therapy OR Laser therapy. Results: PBMT is effective and safe in the treatment of DH, however clinicians should be careful when using this tool and always keep updated. Conclusion: There are several existing treatments for DH, but photobiomodulation has gained prominence for its ease of use and effectiveness in reducing pain and preserving pulp vitality. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | Introdução: A hipersensibilidade dentária (DH) é uma dor aguda e severa, que resulta da exposição da dentina a diversos estímulos inócuos. Objetivo: O objetivo deste trabalho foi fazer uma revisão da literatura descrevendo o mecanismo da hipersensibilidade dentária, sua etiologia, fatores de risco, teorias, diagnóstico e avaliar a eficácia do laser de baixa potência ou fotobiomodulação (PBMT) quando aplicado à DH. Métodos: Foi feita uma revisão narrativa da literatura disponível usando as bases de dados Pubmed, Google Scholar, B-on, MEDLINE e como palavras-chave dental hypersensitivity AND Therapy OR Laser therapy. Resultado: A PBMT é eficaz e segura no tratamento da DH, contudo os clínicos devem ter cuidado na utilização desta ferramenta e manter-se sempre atualizados. Conclusão: São vários os tratamentos existentes para a DH, mas fotobiomodulação tem ganho destaque pela sua facilidade de uso e eficácia na capacidade de reduzir a dor e preservação da vitalidade pulpar. | pt_PT |
