Abstract(s)
Objetivo: Estabelecer ma relação entre os tumour-associated Macrophages e a ocorrência de transformação maligna nas lesões orais potencialmente malignas.
Metodologia: Pesquisa bibliográfica de artigos em bases de dados eletrónicas, nomeadamente: PubMed, B-ON e EBSCO. A triagem dos artigos encontrados foi realizada com base nos critérios PRISMA, tendo sido previamente estipulados critérios de inclusão e exclusão. A avaliação da qualidade metodológica foi realizada com ferramenta do Joanna Briggs Institute para estudos de Cohort e estudos transversais.
Resultados: Foram identificados 348 artigos. Da aplicação dos critérios de inclusão e exclusão, restaram 11 artigos que foram incluídos nesta revisão. 8 Estudos Transversais e 3 Estudos de Cohort. Os estudos analisados demonstraram que os macrófagos estão associados ao processo de transformação maligna das leucoplasias orais, enquanto que, no líquen plano oral e nas lesões liquenoides, a sua expressão é condicionada pelo microambiente pró-inflamatório.
Conclusão: A marcação imunohistoquímica dos macrófagos, concomitantemente à avaliação histológica para determinação do grau de displasia epitelial, parece ser uma ferramenta útil na previsão do potencial de transformação maligna das leucoplasias orais, especialmente aquelas que apresentam displasia epitelial. Nas lesões de líquen plano oral, a análise à expressão dos macrófagos, confirmou o carácter crónico e inflamatório da doença, bem como a importante mediação dos linfócitos no decorrer da mesma.
Purpose: To establish a relationship between tumour-associated macrophages and the occurrence of malignant transformation in potentially malignant oral lesions. The analysed studies demonstrated that macrophages are associated with the malignant transformation process of oral leukoplakias, while in oral lichen planus and lichenoid lesions their expression is conditioned by the pro-inflammatory microenvironment. Conclusion: The immunohistochemical staining of macrophages, concomitantly with histological evaluation to determine the degree of epithelial dysplasia, seems to be a useful tool in predicting the potential for malignant transformation of oral leukoplakias, especially those with epithelial dysplasia. In oral lichen planus lesions, the analysis of macrophage expression confirmed the chronic and inflammatory character of the disease, as well as the important mediation of lymphocytes in the course of the disease.
