Abstract(s)
selecionada (coronoidectomia, coronoidotomias) associada a fisioterapia pós-cirúrgica.
There are several causes of limited mouth opening, one of which is hyperplasia of the coronoid process. The number of patients who suffer from this condition is probably underestimated, since most of the time it is painless and the diagnosis only occurs when there is great mandibular hypomobility. This narrative bibliographic review on coronoid hyperplasia aimed to analyze the literature of the last ten years on the etiology, diagnosis and different treatments for this condition. Early diagnosis is essential to avoid changes in the growth or quality of life of patients. Treatment success depends on the appropriately selected surgical approach (coronoidectomy, coronoidotomy) associated with post-surgical physiotherapy. However, the biggest gap found in the literature is that it is limited to the description of clinical cases / case series, with shortterm follow-up, which does not allow objectively measuring the success of the techniques / protocols for treating coronoid hyperplasia.
