| dc.description.abstract | Introdução: As doenças gastrointestinais, onde se inclui a doença de Crohn, a colite ulcerativa e a doença celíaca, podem ter manifestações a nível da cavidade oral. A colite ulcerativa normalmente afeta a mucosa do cólon com extensão e severidade variável enquanto a doença de Crohn geralmente envolve a porção terminal do íleo e inicial do cólon. Objetivo: O objetivo desta Scoping Review é identificar e sintetizar as manifestações orais mais frequentes das doenças gastrointestinais. Métodos: A pesquisa bibliográfica foi realizada nas bases de dados: PubMed, Scielo, Scopus e B-ON. Foram incluídos estudos de casos clínicos, séries de casos e estudos de coorte, combinando os termos de pesquisa e respetivos termos MeSH com operadores booleanos (AND, OR) com limitação temporal de 2013-2023, escritos em português e inglês. Resultados: De acordo com os critérios de inclusão e exclusão aplicados à pesquisa obteve-se um total de 23 artigos. Conclusões: existem várias manifestações orais das doenças gastrointestinais, que podem ser úteis ao gastroenterologista no diagnóstico de pacientes com ou sem sintomas. Muitas doenças gastrointestinais apresentam sintomas orais detetáveis por dentistas e higienistas orais pelo que a gestão de pacientes com estas condições requer que o médico dentista ajuste o seu tratamento e/ou envolva outros profissionais de saúde. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | Introduction: Gastrointestinal diseases, including Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis and celiac disease, can have intra oral manifestations. Ulcerative colitis typically affects the lining of the colon with varying extent and severity, while Crohn's disease usually involves the terminal portion of the ileum and the initial portion of the colon. Objective: The objective of this Scoping Review is to identify and synthetize the most frequent oral manifestations of gastrointestinal diseases. Methods: The bibliographic search was carried out in the following databases: PubMed, Scielo, Scopus and B-ON. Clinical case studies, case series, and cohort studies were included, combining search terms and their MeSH terms with time-bound Boolean operators (AND, OR) from 2013-2023, written in Portuguese and English. Results: According to the inclusion and exclusion criteria applied to the research, 23 articles were analyzed. Conclusions: There are several oral manifestations of gastrointestinal diseases, which can be useful to the gastroenterologist in diagnosing patients with or without symptoms. Many gastrointestinal diseases have oral symptoms detectable by dentists and oral hygienists, so the management of patients with these conditions requires the dentist to adjust their treatment and/or involve other healthcare professionals. | pt_PT |
