gengival afeta a estética, o estado psicológico e geralmente diminui a autoconfiança. A
aplicação do DSD permite a análise detalhada e meticulosa do sorriso. O DSD permite
(PUBMED, B-ON, Science direct, Researchgate), utilizando palavras-chave: “digital
smile design”, “gummy smile”, “virtual smile design”, “DSD”, “ VSD”, “sorriso
A smile with more than 2mm of exposed gingiva is called gummy smile. A gummy smile affects the aesthetic, the psychological state and generally decreases self-confidence. The application of DSD allows the detailed and meticulous analysis of the smile. The DSD allows to approach all etiologies of the gummy smile except for clinical situations with skeletal component and helps in the examination of all aesthetic parameters to be analyzed to facilitate and avoid errors of diagnosis, communication and planning in order to have a predictable final result and close to the simulation previously performed. The aesthetic vision of the dentist can be confronted and modeled with the patient's vision to transform subjective notions of an aesthetic smile into an objective notion and successfully define the final result before its implementation. There is a risk that simulations are impractical because some parameters can not be accurately predicted : biological factors, factors related to cases, factors related to the operator. Material and methods: bibliographic research in medical electronic databases (PUBMED, B-ON, Science direct, PMC) using keywords: “digital smile design”, “gummy smile”, “virtual smile design”, “DSD”, “ VSD”, “sorriso gengival” in different combinations. Criteria for inclusion: complete articles by answering keywords in combinations, reviews and works listed on reference sites (pubmed, science direct, Researchgate), in Portuguese, English, and French language with a time interval between 2000-2018.
