A extração seriada é, geralmente, aplicada na prática clínica como uma forma de tratamento da discrepância dentomaxilar negativa severa, geralmente de etiologia genética, mas pode também ser de natureza ambiental. Pode ser efetuada num ou ambos os maxilares e em situações de má oclusão de classe I, conduz à extração de quatro dentes permanentes, geralmente os primeiros pré-molares.
A pesquisa bibliográfica foi realizada usando como motores de busca biblioteca virtual B-on, Pubmed, além de livros relacionados com o tema de estudo.
O limite temporal desde janeiro 2010 até janeiro 2017; línguas português, inglês, francês e espanhol; artigos com disponibilidade de texto na íntegra e as palavras chave Serial extraction, Interceptive Orthodontics, Dental Crowding, Dental Age, Mixed Dentition, Early Mixed Dentition, Dental Arch e Tooth-Bone Discrepancy.
Serial extraction is generally applied in clinical practice as a form of treatment of severe negative dento-maxillary discrepancy, usually of genetic etiology, but may also be environmental in nature. It can be performed in one or both jaws and in situations of class I malocclusion, it leads to the extraction of four permanent teeth, usually the first premolars.
