Esta revisão narrativa da literatura tem como objetivo mostrar a utilização de eletromiografia para avaliação dos músculos mastigatórios em pacientes com má-oclusão e disfunção temporo-mandibular. Para a realização deste trabalho, foi efetuada uma pesquisa bibliográfica de artigos científicos publicados entre 2000 a 2022 nas bases de dados eletrónicas PubMed, B-On e Scielo. Foram excluídos artigos ou estudos de revisão narrativa e estudos que não incluíam análise eletromiográfica dos músculos masseter e temporal. O conhecimento da fisiologia do sistema estomatognático é fundamental para o diagnóstico e tratamento das diversas patologias que o acometem, sendo assim necessário o desenvolvimento de novas tecnologias menos invasivas que auxiliem no diagnóstico e planeamento do tratamento dessas doenças. A análise do complexo neuromuscular por meio de campo elétrico magnético tem se mostrado de grande valor na Medicina Dentária, pois permite realizar pesquisas anatomofisiológicas e fornecer informações de disfunções presentes neste sistema.
This narrative literature review aims to show the use of electromyography to evaluate the masticatory muscles in patients with malocclusion and temporomandibular disorders. To carry out this work, a bibliographic search of scientific articles published between the years of 2000 and 2022 was carried out in the electronic databases PubMed, B-On and Scielo. Articles of narrative review and studies that did not include eletromyographic analysis of the masseter and temporal muscles were excluded. The knowledge of the physiology of the stomatognathic system is essencial for the diagnosis and treatment of various pathologies that affect it. Therefore, it is necessary to develop new and less invasive technologies that help in the diagnosis and planning treatment diseases. The analysis of the neuromuscular complex by means of a magnetic electric field has been shown to be a great value in Dentistry, as it allows for anatomophysiological research and provides information on dysfunctions present in this system.
