Abstract(s)
Sleep bruxism in childhood and adolescence is a sleep disorder that may be protective when secondary to other pathologies, or may be a central manifestation characterized by increased rhythmic activity of the chewing muscles. This narrative review aims to systematize the study of the risk factors of bruxism, associating them with treatments in children / adolescents, to achieve an improvement in oral health and social life of patients. At the treatment level, some are controversial, conditioning their acceptance and collaboration by parents / guardians and children / adolescents. Initially, behavioral control treatments should be adopted and over time, if necessary, use more invasive therapies until patient comfort is achieved. However, the need for further studies with standardized diagnostic standards and larger samples is evident in order to prove the effectiveness of sleep bruxism treatments in childhood / adolescence.
