Introduction and Objective: Considering that the action of firefighters in pre-hospital care is crucial for the success of care provided to people who need it, and these professionals are also subject to risks and accidents in their intervention, the aim of this study is to investigate the following research problem: Perception of a group of Firefighters from the Porto Region regarding occupational risks/accidents in pre-hospital care. Methodology : This investigation took place according to a descriptive approach, framing itself as an exploratory, cross-sectional study, whose data were obtained through a questionnaire, self-completed by the elements of a sample selected for convenience from the Firefighters of a Corporation of Greater Porto of the National Authority of Civil Protection (ANPC) (n = 64). Taking into account the questions asked to participants, the inclusion criterion to be applied was that the firefighter had worked in pre-hospital care for at least 2 years. All elements that met the inclusion criteria were available to complete the questionnaire (n=32). Results: Through the study it was found that accidents with sharps, traffic accidents when traveling, verbal aggression and ergonomic risks (lumbar injuries) are those that occur most frequently. Analyzing the data, it was also confirmed that there is no relationship between sociodemographic variables and firefighters' risk perception. Regarding the factors that condition the risk/accidents, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), risks due to the nature of the work and the intervention of the population were highlighted. In relation to risk and accident prevention strategies, quality PPE stands out, improving safety in pre-hospital care, adapting the population's behavior and adjusting firefighters' attitudes when providing care. Conclusions and application : Regarding the results found on risks/accidents, the factors that influence them and prevention strategies, it is considered possible to provide a better understanding of the problem, promoting reflection on pre-hospital care and encouraging surveillance of better quality, through sharing research results. In this way, it is expected to boost the prevention of occupational risks and accidents associated with pre-hospital care. It is considered that the greater the perception of risk, the greater the caution of professionals and the lower the exposure to occupational risks/accidents in pre-hospital care.
