Abstract(s)
Artigos académicos; Meta-análise; Revisão; Revisão sistemática; Ensaios Clínicos;
Leukemias are blood cancers resulting from the abnormal transformation and proliferation of B or T lymphoid cells. Leukemias can be classified as lymphoid or myeloid, according to cell lineage, and as acute or chronic, depending on the course of the disease. The periodontium corresponds to the structures that surround and support the tooth. It is formed by the gingiva, the alveolar bone, the dental cementum and the periodontal ligament. Oral manifestations can be observed by the dentist and associated with leucemia. These oral alterations can be classified, for example, as hyperplasia, gum bleeding, gingival swelling as demonstrated by several studies. Thus, a dental and periodontal examination, and the establishment of treatments aimed at reducing gingival inflammation, pockets and establishing good dental hygiene, must be considered before the initiation of anticancer treatments (chemotherapy, radiotherapy, medication…), even if not always are possible. The objective of this narrative bibliographic review with systematized criteria is to study what are the clinical signs that may be present in the oral cavity caused by leukemia and to address the possible treatments to be carried out during the dental consultation to restore this state. Materials and Method: you will be using the various research platforms on the internet such as B-On; Google Escolar, Pub-med or Scielo, as well as the resources of the UFP libraries to carry out a search for scientific articles using the search terms combined through the Boolean markers “AND” and “OR”. All articles from 1997 that meet the Inclusion Criteria until May 2023 are selected. The selection of studies was guided by reading the title, abstract and full reading of the article. Inclusion Criteria: Articles in English, Portuguese and French. Academic articles; Meta-analysis; Revision; Systematic review; Clinical Trials; Studies that evaluate/reveal oral alterations in relation to Leukemia. Exclusion Criteria: Articles in another language; Items that are not included in the Inclusion Criteria mentioned above; Studies in Vitro.
