Abstract(s)
Objectives: Characterize the knowledge and skills of teachers and educators from Externato Paulo VI and Colégio D. Pedro V in Braga, in managing dental trauma situations, in the school environment. At the same time, it was intended to understand the importance of performing awareness-raising actions, in order to increase the training of teachers and educators on dental trauma situations. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional, analytical, observational study was carried out with a convenience sample, made up of teachers and educators who taught children aged three to ten. The assessment instrument was a questionnaire, previously validated, applied in two moments. In the first moment, a questionnaire was applied and an awareness-raising action was performed. In the second moment, approximately a month later, the same questionnaire was applied again. The collected data were analysed using the statistical software IBM SPSSâ Results: The sample was consisted by 53 participants, and it was observed that the participants already posessed a satisfactory level of knowledge on this topic. However, the awareness action performed showed very favourable results, with significant differences in the responses between sessions, to increase in knowledge. Conclusions: Actions to promote knowledge that include the exemplification of real traumatic situations can be an efficient method for the training of these education professionals. In this regard, it is pertinent that education and health professionals, although in different contexts of action, can synergistically contribute to a more favourable prognosis of a dental trauma that occurs in the school environment.
