Abstract(s)
Research plays an important role in establishing a more effective and sustainable care practice. The objective of research in nursing concerns the study of phenomena that lead to the discovery and growth of knowledge specific to the discipline. In order to complete the Degree in Nursing at the University Fernando Pessoa, a research work was proposed and chosen as the theme “Brief Interventions in the Consumption of Alcohol in University Students”. The consumption of alcoholic beverages is a serious problem that has evolved drastically over time, affecting Portuguese society as a whole. There are several causes responsible for the increase in alcohol consumption by adolescents, not only due to their current lifestyle, but also due to the phenomena of socialization, the entrenchment of cultural traditions, publicity and the attractions of the places of consumption themselves. Problems Related to Alcohol, constitute an important public health problem and interfere with numerous aspects of the individual's life, from individual and family health problems, to the work and social level, being a frequent cause of legal problems. Entrance to university is a period of change for a young adult. The achievement of more autonomy, taking on responsibilities and often leaving their parents' shelter to live alone, causes changes in the lifestyles of university students. Sometimes entering the academic world opens the door to adopting less healthy behaviors. Namely for the start or increase of alcohol consumption. The theoretical component of this work is the result of an extensive bibliographical research on the subject under study and, in this way, we expose fundamental points for the understanding of the problem under study. In this sense, we build the problematic of the present study defined with the starting question: "Did the entrance to the University influence the alcohol consumption in the students?" Health education aims to promote healthy lifestyles. Nurses have a privileged place among the population, having an important role in alcohol prevention. In turn, the teachers of the degree also have an extremely important role in health education in the university environment, it is up to them to address problematic issues such as alcohol, and make students aware of the dangers they may encounter during this period of change at this stage. of the life that is the entrance to the university. The aim of this study was to evaluate the consumption of alcohol in University Students of a Private Institution in the North of the Country and to analyze the adherence of the students themselves to a Brief Intervention. There was a predominance of female students (73%) compared to male students (27%). With regard to the distribution of individuals by age, it appears that the predominant age group is between 20 and 22 years, and in this study, individuals aged 21 (21%) predominate. The results indicate that alcohol consumption is still a common practice among university students, which is in agreement with previous studies. It is concluded that with this study, in agreement with result obtained by each of the students in our sample in a 2nd assessment compared to the 1st assessment, that after adherence to the BI by some students, there was a reduction in alcohol consumption. which made all students who adhered (100%) to be placed in the Level I Risk Zone of Alcohol Consumption (score 0 to 7).
