Abstract(s)
Objective: Explain the importance of working in a multidisciplinary team regarding the diagnosis, as well as the treatment of ankyloglossia, thus avoiding difficulties in breastfeeding, possible weight loss and, mainly, early weaning. Methodology: A search for articles published in the electronic databases Pubmed and Scielo was carried out. From a total of 202 articles obtained, 20 were selected and, subsequently, 4 references from reference journals in the area of pediatric dentistry were added. Topic Covered: Early recognition and diagnosis of ankyloglossia carried out by a multidisciplinary team provides control of complications that may exist and also interferes with its therapeutic approach. In cases where there is a need for intervention, this should be discussed between the different professionals involved, establishing a treatment plan to be carried out, which may include frenectomy or lingual frenotomy and rehabilitation that may be before and/or after the surgical intervention.
