Metodologia: Esta scoping review seguiu as diretrizes do JBI (2020).
Introduction: Alcohol use disorder represents a significant public health issue that profoundly affects individuals’ quality of life. Virtual reality-assisted cognitive behavioural therapy (VR-CBT) has emerged as an innovative strategy that integrates established psychotherapeutic techniques with immersive and controlled environments. This scoping review aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of VR-CBT in reducing alcohol craving and consumption, promoting cognitive restructuring, and increasing self-efficacy in adults with alcohol use disorder. Methodology: This review followed the guidelines of the Joanna Briggs Institute (2020). It included articles in English, Spanish, and Portuguese published in the last 10 years. Searches were conducted in databases such as PubMed, CINAHL, and Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection (via EBSCO). Two independent reviewers screened the articles using Rayyan for data extraction. Results: The review identified evidence on the effectiveness of VR-CBT interventions, particularly in reducing alcohol craving and consumption, improving cognitive restructuring, and enhancing self-efficacy. These results highlight the potential of virtual reality to support adherence to therapeutic protocols and provide safe environments for the development of therapeutic skills. Conclusion: The findings from this review provided valuable contributions regarding the role of virtual reality as a complementary resource to traditional cognitive behavioural therapy for alcohol use disorder. Furthermore, the study identified gaps in the current literature, underscoring the need for further research to optimise the use of innovative technological interventions in clinical settings.
