Abstract(s)
e Scielo.
Dentin hypersensitivity is characterized by acute pain, short duration in response to a chemical, thermal, osmotic or tactile stimulus applied to an area of exposed dentin. It should be seen as a set of symptoms rather than as a genuine/real lesion. Thus, it is important to define the etiology of pain, which is often has several causes, in order to prescribe an effective treatment. However many treatments were proposed but none has been universally accepted as definitive. The purpose of this work is to study the important aspects related to dentin hypersensitivity, such as the multifactorial etiology, the mechanism of pain, a correct diagnosis, in order to expose the different treatments currently proposed. The bibliographical search was realized through search engines: Medline, Pubmed, and Scielo.
