Introdução: Durante a gravidez, muitos fatores podem influenciar a saúde oral das futuras mães. Mais precisamente, o periodonto é afetado por todas as modificações que o corpo sofre. Esta influência não é apenas numa direção, mas em ambos, o periodonto também pode causar alterações que podem afetar o futuro bebê.
Objetivos: Este trabalho tem como objetivo estabelecer e entender a relação entre alterações periodontais e complicações na gravidez, para elaboração de plano de tratamento em mulheres grávidas.
Materiais e Métodos: Esta revisão incluiu estudos analíticos de caso-controle e estudos prospectivos de coorte avaliando a associação entre periodontite materna e complicações na gravidez. De todos os artigos selecionados, 76 preencheram os critérios de inclusão para a revisão e 47 preencheram os critérios de qualidade.
Resultados e Conclusões: Estudos parecem mostrar uma relação entre doença periodontal e gravidez em ambas as direções. A Prevenção da doença periodontal pode reduzir o risco de pré-eclâmpsia e parto pré-termo.
Introduction: During pregnancy, many factors can influence the oral health of expectant mothers. More precisely, the periodontium is affected by all the modifications that the body undergoes. This influence is not just in one direction, but in both, the periodontium is also causing changes that may affect the future baby. Aim: This paper aims to establish and understand the relationship between periodontal changes and complications of pregnancy, in order to set up a treatment plan for pregnant women Material and Methods: This review included analytical case-control studies and prospective cohort studies evaluating the association between maternal periodontitis and pregnancy complications. Of all the screened articles, 76 met the inclusion criteria for the review, and 47 met the quality criteria. Results and conclusions: Studies seem to show a relationship between periodontal disease and pregnancy in both directions. Prevention of periodontal diseases would reduce the risk of preeclampsia and preterm delivery.
