Abstract(s)
As disfunções temporomandibulares constituem um significativo problema de saúde pública, com incidência entre 5-12%, e consistem em alterações patológicas da articulação temporomandibular, dos músculos mastigatórios e/ou das estruturas associadas.
A dor persistente relacionada com as disfunções temporomandibulares é considerada a terceira condição de dor crónica mais prevalente, a nível mundial, sendo que esta cronicidade pode acarretar um comprometimento das atividades diárias, nas vertentes: funcional, psicossocial, psicológica e, subsequentemente, da qualidade de vida dos pacientes acometidos.
Esta revisão bibliográfica narrativa tem como objetivo aprofundar o estudo do impacto das disfunções temporomandibulares crónicas, nomeadamente, ao nível da qualidade de vida de pacientes, de forma a contribuir para a conscientização da sua importância aquando da terapêutica.
Temporomandibular disorders constitute a significant public health problem, with a prevalence between 5-12%, and consist of pathological changes of the temporomandibular joint, the masticatory muscles and/or the associated structures. Persistent pain related to temporomandibular disorders is the third most common chronic pain condition worldwide, and this chronicity may lead to the impairment of daily activities, namely: on a functional, psychosocial, psychological level, and subsequently, of the patient’s quality of life. This literature review, aims to deepen the study of chronic temporomandibular disorders’ impact, on the patient’s quality of life, in order to contribute to the awareness of its importance specifically during the therapeutic approach. The literature review was carried out from the databases Pubmed / Medline, B-on, SciELO and ScienceDirect, without temporal restrictions, and using the following keywords: "temporomandibular disorders", "quality of life", "chronic pain", “depression”, “catastrophization”, “temporomandibular disorder´s impact”.
