Abstract(s)
Currently there is a great demand for restorations that try to match the natural structure of the tooth, and indirect restorations are widely used in Dentistry. Computer aided design and computer aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) technology is a technology applicable in indirect dental rehabilitation, particularly in the field of registration and preparation of total or partial restorations, with advantages over conventional techniques. The objective of this review is to know the new technologies available, following the digital flow, from the intraoral scanners and throughout the CAD-CAM process, as well as the differences between the types of materials and preparations for indirect restorations. The research methodology included articles in several languages, with a time limit between 2013-2023. This research resulted in 70 articles that were used for the elaboration of this review. Based on the results found, it can be stated that the specificities of each clinical case should be taken into account in the choice of the preparation procedure, including the degree and location of the dental lesions, the need for structural reinforcement and the desired aesthetics. The development of digital technologies has revolutionized clinical practice, bringing new techniques, systems and interactions that are an asset in dentistry.
