Abstract(s)
A doença periodontal é uma patologia provocada por bactérias, presentes no biofilme oral,
que atinge os tecidos de suporte dos dentes (gengiva, ligamento, cemento e o osso alveolar).
A disfunção eréctil é uma patologia que afeta o sexo masculino e impede que mantenham
uma erecção suficiente para conseguir uma actividade sexual satisfatória.
A associação entre estas duas patologias, surge devido ao facto de ambas terem vários
factores de risco em comum, podendo uma influenciar o surgimento da outra.
O objectivo desta revisão sistemática, foi analisar todas as investigações realizadas (desde
2009 até aos dias de hoje), e divulgar este assunto, em particular, junto dos profissionais de
medicina dentária, que podem ajudar na prevenção e tratamento dos impactos destas doenças.
Verificou-se que todos os estudos apresentavam uma associação positiva entre a disfunção
erétil e a doença periodontal, mas a significância estatística diferia entre eles.
The periodontal disease its a pathology caused by bacterias present in oral biofilm, that reach the teeth support tissues (gums, periodontal ligament, cement and alveolar bone). The erectile dysfunction its a pathology that affects the male gender and prevents them of mantain enough erection to achieve a satisfactory sexual activity. The association between these two pathologies, arises due to the fact that both of them have risk factors in common, and one can influence the appearance of the other. The objective of this article was to analyze every investigations made (since 2009 to the present), and spread this subject, in particular, to the dental professionals, that can help on the prevention and treatment on the impacts of these diseases.
