O carcinoma verrucoso caracteriza-se como uma variante do carcinoma espinocelular, sendo a cavidade oral o local onde surge mais frequentemente. Trata-se de um tumor localmente invasivo mas com baixo potencial de metastização.
Esta dissertação tem como objectivo uma revisão sobre os conhecimentos actuais da etiologia do carcinoma verrucoso, métodos de diagnóstico e opções terapêuticas, com especial foco no carcinoma verrucoso da cavidade oral.
A metodologia para a realização desta revisão bibliográfica consistiu na pesquisa através da PubMed e B-on, sem limites temporais.
Verrucous carcinoma is characterized as a variant of squamous cell carcinoma, being the oral cavity the most common site of occurrence. It is a locally invasive tumor but with a low potential for metastasis. This dissertation aims to review the current knowledge on the etiology of verrucous carcinoma, diagnostic methods and therapeutic options, with a special focus on verrucous carcinoma of the oral cavity. The methodology for the accomplishment of this bibliographic revision consisted of a research through the PubMed and B-on, without temporal limits.
